MIGHTY WORKS Jesus said unto him, If thou canst believe, all things are possible to him that believeth. - (Mark 9:23) READ: Mark 6:1-6 Jeremiah 32:19 tells us that the Almighty God is mighty in works. God loves doing mighty works. Unfortunately, however, in today's Bible reading, Jesus could not do mighty works in His hometown because of the people's unbelief. Unbelief or doubt will hinder a fellow from experiencing God's mighty works in his or her life. When they are absent, however, the fellow's life will reflect the mighty works of the Almighty God. God delights in doing mighty works, and He seeks sons and daughters who will partner with Him to do them. He is on the lookout for men and women who will do greater works than the Lord Jesus Christ did while He was on earth. There is, however, the need to believe in the Lord Jesus Christ if you want to be eligible to do greater works (John 14:12). Beloved, you don't need to attend a seminary or attain a particular position to do mighty works; all that is required is your faith. When it was almost time for Jesus to ascend into heaven, He commissioned His disciples to preach the gospel all over the world and told them about the mighty signs that would follow them. He told them that they had the power to cast out devils, speak with new tongues, take up serpents, and lay hands on the sick (Mark 16:15-18). The only thing that qualified them to do all these was for them to believe in Him. Child of God, God wants to do mighty works through you. He wants to use you as His battle axe to destroy the works of darkness (Jeremiah 51:20), but you must believe in Him for this to happen. It is true that He is sovereign and can do whatever He pleases, but He wants you to have faith in Him so all things can be possible for you (Mark 9:23). Have you allowed unbelief to cheat you out of the mighty works that God wants to do in you and through you? If you have, ask for His mercy today. Fill your heart with His word because hearing God's word continually will grow your faith. Romans 10:17 says that faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. You must also flee from anything that will dampen your faith. Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever (Hebrews 13:8), and the marvellous things He has done for others and through others, He can do for you and through you. Only believe! Get up and work. PRAYER POINT: Dear Father, please do mighty works in my life and through me, in Jesus' name. BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: Ecclesiastes 9-12 Open Heaven Devotional by Pastor E A Adeboye

4 Fundamental Truth about Child Training

Training a child in God's way is very important if one want to have joy, peace and fulfilment in this life and the one to come. Here are some fundamental truths about training a child as coined from the book "Raising Godly Children" by Faith Abiola Oyedepo 1. God owns your Children - You need to lay a solid foundation for your children in the Word of God today. You as a caretaker over your children is acting as both laborer and watchman and you are bound to give account to the original owner Psalms 127:3 2. It is a Commandment - A command is a law or an order. It's not an advise, a suggestion or a thing you do at your convenience. Our Father emphatically commanded us to teach His laws to our children (Deuteronomy 6:6-7). God's commandments are not to grieve us, they are to groom us ( 1 John 5:3). A refusal to train your children in God's fear is absolutely disobedience to God's commandment. You have no excuse to send your children off to a "rich" relative to train for you. It's a personal non-transferable responsibility to train your children up in the fear of the Lord (Provers 29:15). Being a parent is an awesome responsibility as well as a fantastic privileges. You must keep at it with dogged determination in spite of the demands it might place on you. God never commands the impossible. He is faithful. We must be willing and obedient (Isaiah 1:19). 3. It requires diligence - Child's training is no small responsibility. It must be done carefully and purposefully (Deuteronomy 6:6-7 & Psalms 127:1). You must diligently and deliberately sow good seeds of the word of God into the fertile soil of the heat of your child today expecting a bountiful returns (just like a farmer). Spiritual substance is without doubt the greatest investment a parent can make in the life of his child. Love to make Christianity a way of life for your child. It's a serious business raising children. Your actions speaks louder than your words in the eye of your child. Example stay much more with your child than the words of the mouth. The words of your mouth must tally with your actions. You can not preach on forgiveness and yet be full of bitterness and quarrelling. You must make your life a worthy example for them to follow. A life that speaks, a life worthy of emulations. An ounce of example is worth a ton of preaching. Being diligent also requires that you are observant (Proverbs 12:24). 4. It is a Seed - Like a farmer, you must pay close attention to the quality of seed you sow if you want to make good profits from the harvest. Go about it as a labor with profit (Genesis 8:22) If out of ignorance or laxity you sow nothing tangible into your children, a vacuum is created and the devil will fill it up with junks. A parent, just like a spiritual farmer has the word of God as the seed, the heart of the child is the good ground and the harvest you reap is joy, peace and fulfilment in layer years (Proverbs 23:24). It's better to train a child than to repair an adult. I hope the nuggets in the first chapter of this book blesses you. Kindly leave your comments below and share.
